TORONTO (May 28, 2014) — In advance of today's TTC Board meeting, Candidate for Mayor of Toronto, Karen Stintz, released this statement:
"With the announcement of a $47-million surplus at the TTC, I will fight for these funds to be allocated to the benefit of transit riders, by preventing a fair hike in 2015.
"While I have continued to advocate for an efficient and affordable transit system, John Tory and Olivia Chow have refused to comment on how they would allocate this substantial amount of money.
"Mr. Tory has repeatedly demonstrated his inability to make a decision. At the other end of the spectrum, Olivia Chow continues to make promises with no plan for how she will pay for them.
"As Chair of the TTC, I ensured that the Commission was accountable to riders by making customer service the priority, introducing changes like Wi-Fi and electronic fare cards, and reducing costs through outsourcing services. As Mayor, I will continue to provide leadership by making fighting congestion my number one priority. Today is an opportunity to provide our loyal transit riders with a break."
